Finding the Cash-Flow Gap Before Seeking Finance

Practical steps to help South African businesses prepare an informed funding discussion.

Distinguish profit from cash

A business can show profit while having cash tied up in stock or customer invoices. Cash-flow decisions should be based on actual expected movements.

Map receipts and commitments

List confirmed and reasonably forecast receipts, payroll, supplier dates, taxes, repayments and unavoidable overheads.

Stress-test assumptions

Model a slow-paying customer, an order delay or a cost increase. Assess whether additional finance would still be serviceable.

Understand current obligations

Review overdrafts, loans, arrears, debtor ageing and concentrated customer exposure before proposing any new facility.

Choose a fitting discussion

Working-capital, invoice-related or other structures have different requirements. The business needs a realistic plan, not just a funding amount.

Meetesh Jugwant Consulting supports funding preparation and potential provider matching. It is not a lender, does not make credit decisions, and cannot guarantee funding. Provider terms and eligibility apply.
